MARTA CNG Fueling Facility
Atlanta, Georgia
Lakeshore Engineering constructed a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling facility and wastewater treatment plant for Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) at the Hamilton Mill Maintenance facility.
The scope of work included the installation of four compressors, storage tanks, a gas dryer, and three fueling bays. This required extensive sitework, concrete and masonry construction, steel erection, electrical work, and installation of process equipment and piping.
The project also involved the construction of a wastewater treatment facility, which included an influent pump station, an above-ground storage tank, chemical feed systems, pH adjustment, coagulation and flocculation tanks with mixers, a Diffused Air Filtration system, and sludge dewatering components.
Construction was completed on an active MARTA site without interrupting daily maintenance operations. Lakeshore self-performed a significant portion of the work and coordinated closely with MARTA’s construction management team, including quality control, testing, operations, and design personnel, to maintain project efficiency. The collaboration contributed to the project being completed with no claims.
The project received recognition from the Associated General Contractors of Georgia (AGC) and an award for construction excellence from the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA).
