Monroe WTP Clearwell Modifcations & Expansion
Monroe, Georgia
Lakeshore Engineering constructed a 1 MGD cast-in-place concrete clearwell at the City of Monroe’s water treatment plant.
The project scope encompassed multiple integrated elements:
Installation of new yard piping and valve systems
Implementation of modern site lighting infrastructure
Strategic modifications to the existing clearwell
Careful demolition of an outdated clearwell structure
As Monroe's only water treatment plant, maintaining uninterrupted water service throughout construction was critical to the project’s success. This required developing a detailed phasing strategy and constant communication with plant operations personnel. The project team implemented innovative solutions for temporary service connections and carefully sequenced construction activities to prevent disruptions.
The clearwell was located close to an existing concrete structure and an overhead water storage tank. We developed and implemented a soldier pile and lagging shoring system to address the site constraints. The team self-performed the shoring installation and structural excavation phases, ensuring precise control over this critical project component.
